Preliminary

To make the "Batik" is needed include:

- White white fabric width 1.10 meters and this we call "White cambric". So special / special cloth for batik. Usually the cloth we have to buy 1 piece, and it measures 17 ½ x42-inch yard. Of the fabric of this size can be divided into six strands of cloth. But now in Yogyakarta and Solo we can buy one sheet or several sheets that we need (1 sheet = 2 ½ meters)

How to process the fabric:

Prior to this fabric in batik, we wash it first, and that will in batik by using color (like the fabric of pekalongan), must be in "kettle" or the "loyor" first. After the wash or in the kettle, then the "kanji" on the go with the "kemplong". And should not be washed using soap, the purpose of washing is to remove the plant starch and fat.

Is needed to make batik:

- A small stove or a small brazier (furnace)

- A small skillet and batik evening

- 5 seeds canting, which consists of (1 to ngengreng / klowongan, 1 to isen-isen, 1 to cecekan / points, 1 for tembokan, one to drag two / lines lined)

- A few strands of "fibers" which is smooth to the rough, we have used to "bribe" if we use canting dead-end. Mengloyor mengetel way or the white cloth in the wash without soap and then in the sun to dry.

The materials needed for mengetel:

1. Peanut oil: oil pagoda, castor oil or sesame oil
2. Gray water from the straw, kitchen or soda ash plant. Usually we use lye stimulated with peanut oil in the ratio:

- 75 cc of peanut oil, 20 ounces of water stimulated (lye), ½ liter or 1 liter of plain water (this size to a sheet of white cloth)

Phase One:

½ liter of water mixed with 20 ounces of water stimulated or lye or soda ash water and stir in the Adul-samapai mix well. 75 cc of peanut oil and then put the mixture will become yellow and eventually turn into white as milk. White cloth that has been washed and dried before put, stirring / in knead until smooth, then the sun to dry. Stirring (kneading) is repeated up to 20 x, and each time stirring the water was like milk in ½ liter of water tambahai soda / lye. Knead until after the clean without soap and in starch. If the fabric is not directly mengkanji in drying, but left before the water leaked out kanjinya up, when it's a little dry, just in the sun to dry. Then in the "kemplong".

How Mengemplong:

A dry cloth was then in the roll, put on a fine wood, the length is approximately 1 meter and the fabric is beaten with a wooden mallet. So that the cloth is dirty, should be wrapped with white cloth. We at-o'clock until soft cloth, because it should not be in irons, as well as fabrics will be interested and would damage our batikan.
